| Composition of the
Broadcasting Authority (BA)
The BA has 12 members who are
all appointed by the Chief Executive. Nine members
including the Chairman, are non-official members drawn
from the community. The remaining three are public
officers.
Composition of the Broadcasting
Authority Complaints Committee (BACC)
The Complaints Committee is
responsible for considering complaints about broadcasts
and making recommendations to the BA regarding such
complaints. The Complaints Committee comprises seven
BA members and six co-opted non-official members.
Composition of the Broadcasting
Authority Codes of Practice Committee (BACPC)
The Codes of Practice Committee is
responsible for keeping various broadcasting standards
under regular review. It comprises five BA members
and five co-opted non-official members.
Functions
The BA is a statutory body established
in September 1987 under the Broadcasting
Authority Ordinance (Cap. 391). Its role is to
regulate licensed television and radio broadcasters
in Hong Kong through provisions in the Broadcasting
Ordinance (Cap. 562), the Telecommunications
Ordinance (Cap. 106) and the Broadcasting
Authority Ordinance (Cap. 391) .
The Broadcasting Ordinance empowers the BA
to perform the following functions:
